The book was published by Tilbury House, Publishers, in conjunction with the Gulf of Maine Aquarium.

Written for grades 3-7, Sea Soup: Zooplankton’s photographs and text explore the sea and the wide variety of drifting marine life. This book complements its companion title published previously, Sea Soup: Phytoplankton. Tilbury House has also published a related Sea Soup Teacher’s Guide by Betsy Stevens of Kennebunk.

Mary Cerullo is the associate director of Friends of Casco Bay and the author of 11 children’s science books. Bill Curtsinger’s photography has appeared in National Geographic, Life, Time, Newsweek and other publications. He has photographed four other books.

The 2002 National Science Teachers Association recognition was based on content and presentation, and required substantial science information presented in a clear, accurate and distinguished format without any gender, ethnic or socioeconomic bias. The books selected will appear in the March 2002 issue of “Science and Children,” a journal for educators at the elementary level.

The Children’s Book Council is a nonprofit trade association dedicated to encouraging literacy and the use and enjoyment of children’s books.
