Four Maine organizations and a regional advocacy group have organized a multi-faceted conference on LNG and the implications of siting a plant in the state. The conference is planned for Thursday, July 29 at Bowdoin College, starting at 8 a.m.
The sponsoring groups are the Island Institute, Bowdoin College, the University of Southern Maine, the Maine State Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Conservation Law Foundation (CLF).
According to Rob Gardiner of CLF’s Maine Advocacy Center, speakers and conferees will discuss the Northeast’s need for gas, the ability to pipe gas from one region to another, what an LNG terminal might look like and need, as well as terminal designs and their impact. In addition, the conference agenda will include discussion of the permitting process, navigation and fisheries impacts and safety and security.
The conference will take place at the Smith Student Center at Bowdoin College. There is no conference fee, but pre-registration is required and participants must pay for their own lunches.
