To the editor:

We are writing this letter to thank all the folks who stepped up to encourage and support the launch of Penobscot Island Air. We are happy to say that we are servicing the islands of Matinicus, Vinalhaven, North Haven, Criehaven, Islesboro, Stonington and Swan’s as well as other coastal and island destinations. Without the support of the Island Institute and many other individuals, we would not be successful.

Over years of service, the crew has become close to the island residents. We know how important it is to have a tie to the mainland, and we feel honored and privileged to be the air service provider for the islands.

The Island Institute offered us unwavering support. With this support, we were able to position ourselves for the mail and freight contracts. Our sincere gratitude goes out to Peter Ralston, Philip Conkling, Kathy Westra, Bart Morrison and all of the staff of the Island Institute.

In addition, we wanted to also thank all of the islanders who helped us throughout this time. From start up funds donated to the use of airstrips, we cannot thank you enough.

We would not be in the air without all of you. Thank you.

Jim Nichols, Rich Wright, Don Campbell, Kevin Waters of Penobscot Air
