The Vinalhaven Rowing Club Women’s Team finished first in its division at the “Snow Row” in Hull, MA. Susan Dempster coxed the crew with Heather White as stroke, followed by Jen Wadleigh in the port stroke position. Gigi Bass and Michaela O’Neill took the “engine room” seats, while Kathy Warren and Karen Jackson filled the bow seats. Despite rough seas and fierce competition from men’s and mixed teams from all over the Eastern U.S. and beyond, the Vixens finished the three-and-three-quarter-mile mile course in just under 47 minutes, a scant 16 seconds after the second place “professional” women’s team from Cornwall, England, which was in an entirely different division. Mark Jackson also raced hard that day in “Siren” with a men’s crew, placing second in the professional division with a time of 38.05 minutes.
