To the editor:
Many thanks to Working Waterfront for keeping us informed about the LNG “invasion” into Maine and Canada (WWF May 06).

If we really need a terminal in Maine — I think it should be here in Portland with offshore unloading into a pipeline. “Forcing” this on the [Passamaquoddy] Reservation in the name of “money” may in reality be the end of the Reservation lifestyle. (This is sacred land where the sun first shines on USA soil.)

Also, the waters there are not deep and easy as in the Portland area; the risk of accidents in those more-difficult-navigation waters makes no sense to me. I’m also upset that Maine [has] run roughshod over Canadian desires.
