To the editor:
I was appalled by the information in Wanda Curtis’s article, “Coastal hospitality businesses respond to high gas prices” [WWF July 06]. It seems that the innkeepers in Rockland have banded together to offer a cut-rate package to those vacationers who would “Drive Mean to Save Green” on their lodging fees. She quotes the co-owner of the Limerock Inn as saying that “we figured that the person with the bigger vehicle would be the most in need of the discount.” It appears to me that the person with the biggest vehicle has the most money to begin with and rewarding him for purchasing the big gas-guzzler is outrageous! Oil is the only reason we are fighting in Iraq and killing thousands of people, both from Iraq, our country and many other involved countries. I think we need to find ways to use less gas, not ways to reward those who use the most gas.
