On August 8 the Midcoast Fishermen’s Association (MFA) of Port Clyde, Maine held its 4th annual haddock bake at the Saint George town office. Volunteer head chefs Rhonda and Doug Anderson served a feast of haddock donated by Port Clyde Fresh Catch, topped with Maine-shrimp Newburgh sauce, served with a salad of locally grown vegetables, homemade biscuits, potatoes in honey butter and tables of beautiful desserts, from homemade blueberry pies to decadent chocolate cakes. Dinner attendee Sally Perkins said of the event, “The dessert table was overwhelming, so many delicious desserts to enjoy as the last piece of an amazing feast. I had such a wonderful time; the annual MFA haddock bake benefit will be on my calendar every year from now on.”
The event raised over $4,000. All donations from the haddock bake’s 350 attendees fund the work of the Midcoast Fishermen’s Association (MFA), the last fleet of groundfishermen still in existence between Portland and the Canadian border. The fishermen of the cooperative fish in an environmentally conscious manner in the hopes of preserving both fish stocks and Maine’s fishing communities for future generations.
