There was a feline spay and neuter clinic held on Matinicus Island on September 5 and 6. The two-day medical service was sponsored by the Maine Sea Coast Mission, which paid for transportation costs for the veterinarian and the technician.
Donations from island residents helped to pay the cost of feral cat surgery and a reduced charge was offered to island cat owners. A total of 31 cats were spayed or neutered and rabies shots and general health exams were available.
Horse & Hound Veterinary Services of Owls Head held the clinic. Margo B. Maloney, D.V.M. and April Wooton, a licensed veterinary technician, were assisted by Lacey Leigh, Ann Mitchell, June Pemberton and Blair Clement.
