About 1,200 pounds of lobster were sold at the Port Clyde Lobster Harvest Day, held this past Saturday, October 10.

Wind gusts up to 25 knots blew a folding table across the dock. Volunteers sold live and cooked lobster and lobster dinners, which included corn, crab claws and potato chips. The event was held by the Port Clyde Fishermen’s Co-op, and proceeds will help maintain the wharf, where the event was held.

The lobster harvest day is a new concept, unveiled by the the Maine Lobster Promotion Council and area lobstermen, as a way to promote lobster sales. The fall was picked for the harvest days because most Maine lobster is actually harvested in the fall, according to a press release from the promotion council.

Maine Lobster Harvest Days were also held on October 11 in Bath, Scarborough, Stonington and Winter Harbor.

On October 17 at 10 a.m., there will be a harvest day at Five Islands Lobster Co. in Georgetown. There will be free coffee and baked goods. Lobsters will be $5 each and the event will continue until the lobsters are gone.

On October 24, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. there will be a lobster harvest day at Fishermen’s Catch, 1270 Roosevelt Trail, Raymond. Lobsters will be $5 each, live or cooked. See the lobster council Web site for more information:
