Representatives from the Island Institute, Efficiency Maine, the Cranberry Isles Realty Trust and Home Energy Answers will be on hand for a free Feb. 4 information session and webinar on the application of heat pump technology in island homes.

Heat pumps are extremely efficient systems that collect heat from the air outside and route it into your home. For grid-tied islands served by Central Maine Power or Emera, heat pumps can heat homes at the cost equivalent of $1.50 per gallon of heating oil. Islands that could benefit from heat pump technology include:

* the Casco Bay islands

* Islesboro

* the Cranberry Isles

* the Fox Islands 

* Swan’s Island

The information session will be held on Great Cranberry Island on Wednesday, Feb. 4 from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. at the Cranberry House. Remote participation is possible via Zoom webinar. There will be time for questions following each presenter, and snacks will be provided.
