Chebeague’s ‘Renaissance’ woman turns 90
CHEBEAGUE — When Martha Komlosy Hamilton walked into the Chebeague Island Hall on March 2, an enthusiastic crowd of more than 150 family and friends greeted her with best wishes for her 90th birthday. Hamilton has earned the respect and admiration of generations of Chebeaguers. The phrase “professional volunteer” is an apt description for this
Chebeague Community Rallies to Send Student to Austria
Arianna Stefanilo grew up on Chebeague Island. Her passion was cooking, and after completing a two-year culinary program at PATHS (Portland Arts and Technology High School) she decided that she wanted to become a professional chef. …this just in, from our Chebeague correspondent:
I have had multiple calls and emails since the Times article and a Portland PR firm has volunteered to help pro bono! A food scientist at Penn State is interested in determining the recipe for small bakeries and home bakers. New England Cable News and Port City Magazine have called as well! Kraft needs to

Chebeague Island, home of the extended Hamilton clan for 250 years, will host a Hamilton family reunion on July 15. “If you have ever wondered if you have a Chebeague connection,” says local historian (and Hamilton descendant) Donna Miller Damon, “this is the time to find out!” Hamilton descendants carry hundreds of different surnames and
David Nyhan and the Meaning of Friendship
Our friend David Nyhan, a Chebeague summer resident and nationally known journalist, died Jan. 23, after shoveling snow at his winter home in Brookline, Massa-chusetts. He was 64. David wrote for the Boston Globe for 32 years before retiring in 2001. It’s funny how we develop close a personal friendship with one person, while barely

On July 6, the Chebeague Historical Society opened the doors of its new Museum of Chebeague History in the former District 9 schoolhouse. Nearly 350 persons attended the dedication. The school, built in 1871, and its 1970s addition were transformed from an endangered building to a functional research and exhibit facility. Most of the original
